Porty BVEP — Darkness, flat form
Some crosses simply have to happen and Porty BVEP was one of them. As the name hints, I envisioned something dark, elegant, and rich, like a fine port , a hybrid steeped in deep hues and layered complexity. This cross draws heavily from the BVEP line, celebrated for its extraordinary foliage and refined form.
The mother, a blistering BVEP x Dorrito, came from @deeplyrootedhabbits and quickly became one of the most striking plants in my collection. Her leaves are architectural bold yet fluid and her emergents open in a deep, almost glowing red before settling into a maroon so dark it borders on black. The mature foliage looks like polished obsidian under the right light, absorbing rather than reflecting a quality I deeply value in BVEP types.
I paired her with one of my favorite BVEPs: OG1 x RA1, a cross between two of the most revered BVEPs in existence. The intent was clear to refine the dark aesthetic while introducing the length and elegance OG1 and RA1 are known for. I expect the offspring to show elongated forms, subtle lobes, and in some cases, flat sinus characteristics that enhance their dramatic silhouette.
Interestingly, the BVEP x Dorrito mother took her time her inflorescences are small, almost understated, despite the massive leaves she produces. It made this batch particularly limited, but I believe that rarity adds to the magic. Each seedling carries the potential to become a centerpiece plant not just for its visual presence but for the lineage it represents.
Porty BVEP is a cross for those who appreciate intensity the kind of collector who values the quiet allure of deep red emergents and the commanding darkness of mature foliage. These aren’t just BVEPs; they’re sculpted expressions of refinement and patience a true celebration of what makes this lineage unforgettable.
