Carla x BC JD001

Round x GPH001 x BC The Spark Behind a New Carla Line

When I first acquired Round x GPH001, I was immediately struck by her quiet elegance , the understated vein pattern set against that deep, dark foliage. There’s something mesmerizing about the balance of simplicity and refinement she carries. Instantly, I began imagining the next step: what if I could backcross her with a BVEP x Carla that carried that signature “Bullete” character , strong form, resilient growth, and a touch of that recognizable Carla poise?

The goal was to create a Carla-heavy BVEP hybrid with both structure and subtlety — a plant that embodies the grace of Round x GPH001 while holding the luminous sparkle of crystalline veins from the Carla line. I’m holding back several of these seedlings because I can feel how special they’ll become. There’s a certain intuition that comes with growing; some plants just speak to you, and these do exactly that.

The mother, “BC,” remains one of my most vigorous and breathtaking anthuriums. She never stops producing  each new leaf larger, darker, and more defined than the last. She currently graces the cover of this website for a reason: she captures what I love most about breeding  that perfect harmony of beauty and strength.

Part of the inspiration came from a local grower who created a Carla 5x10 x (Carla x BVEP) cross that turned out beautifully. Those plants leaned toward the minimal side but held veins with a shimmer that caught the light just right. I wanted to take that a step further  to refine the look, to retain the sparkle, and to bring out even more of the Carla soul within the hybrid.

I believe these new crosses will deliver that  minimal form, rich texture, and crystalline sparkle. For collectors who appreciate the finer nuances of a good Carla, these will feel like the next evolution  elegant, powerful, and deeply expressive of their lineage.
